Built–Up Roofing Systems (BUR)
With Built-Up roofing systems, the highly reliable waterproof membrane is field fabricated with layers of bitumen, alternating with plies of reinforcing felts. The redundant layers give it exceptional resistance to water and weather. Johns Manville has been a leader in BUR with 150 years of experience. We manufacture a complete line of fiber glass felts, including ply and base felts, and mineral surfaced cap sheets.

Built-Up Roofing System — GlasKap® CR Cool Roof (4GIC-CR)
When considering cool roof alternatives using a bituminous built-up roofing system, there is no easier solution than JM™'s GlasKap® CR Cool Roof Cap Sheet. GlasKap CR is an improved version of our proven GlasKap sheet, with added reflectivity and emissivity properties that meet CRRC (Cool Roof Rating Council), Title 24 (for California) and LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) requirements.
-
GlasKap CR is a white mineral-surfaced, white acrylic coated fiber glass cap sheet. When used as the uppermost finish ply in a BUR system, it provides a reflectivity rating of 0.76 and an emissivity rating of 0.85 which meet all Title 24 and LEED requirements. The unique, UV–resistant coating provides extra protection to the membrane and asphalt, and also has strong UL and FM ratings for both fire and wind uplift.
-
Unusual penetrations or roof details are no problem for PermaFlash. The liquid-applied, two-part system has a pliable polyester scrim that can accommodate any shape as the reinforcing substrate for the MBR® Flashing Cement. PermaFlash is easily installed in a wide temperature range and features great tensile strength, minimal odor release, enhanced workability and a low cost per penetration.
